Not just another day

50 years ago today, on April 22, 1970, Wisconsin Senator Gaylord Nelson issued a call to action and 20 million people mobilized for the first Earth Day. This grassroots movement wasn’t organized with the power of the internet and the social media tools we enjoy today. Rather, it was powered by one man from Clear Lake, Wisconsin with a vision and a deep commitment to keep his promise to future generations. Today, our nation and the world face the threat of global climate change more than ever. This is a challenge that we must confront and one that demands action.

As we have been shut inside our houses by this invisible virus, I can’t help but hope that this sickness in our bodies opens our eyes to the deeper sickness in our planet. The past weeks saw a drastic change in the environment all across the globe, it appears that the physical distancing and quarantine measures being taken to stop the spread of the virus, by choice or by force, are rapidly cutting back our emissions through reduced industrial activity, and restrictions on international flights and local traffic. Coronavirus is showing us that we cannot pick and choose who decides to take action – it requires a global effort to protect our planet. However, what remains uncertain is whether we will choose to do enough to save it.

The truth is only us ,humans can choose to be the cure to this deeper sickness , Only we can choose to nurture the ancient waters and forests that nurture us.

As the earth stops to take a collective deep breathe we have a rare opportunity to reimagine and redefine a new future .
